Helping Students Start Careers in Skilled Trades

As Ontario continues to grow in population, increase manufacturing capabilities and foster new fields of innovation, our province is facing a higher than ever demand for skilled trades workers.

Our government is working hard to tackle the labour shortage and help motivated students fast-track their way to well paying and rewarding careers in one of over 140 different skilled trades in industries such as agriculture, automotive, construction, cooking, information technologies (I.T.) with the new Focused Apprenticeship Skills Training (FAST) program.

FAST will allow students in Grades 11 and 12 to participate in more apprenticeship learning through additional co-operative education credits while completing high school. Graduates would receive a new seal on their Ontario Secondary School Diploma to signify their successful completion of the program and recognize them for their dedication to learning in the skilled trades.

Coming soon our government will be releasing a new online portal in order to help better pair students with opportunities that fit their interests and career goals.
