Message From Your MPP
Dear Friends and Neighbours,
As we welcome the month of May, the energy of spring is in full bloom. With warmer days and longer evenings, families are spending more time outdoors, enjoying parks, trails, and community spaces. High school students are preparing for upcoming exams and graduations, while college and university students have completed their academic terms and are beginning to transition into summer jobs, internships, and new career opportunities. This season is filled with milestones, reflection, and excitement for what lies ahead.
Across Ontario, May is a time to recognize and celebrate the diverse cultures and communities that make our province so vibrant. We mark Armenian Heritage Month, Asian Heritage Month, Dutch Heritage Month, Jewish Heritage Month, Polish Heritage Month, and South Asian Heritage Month, each highlighting the rich traditions and lasting contributions that continue to shape Ontario. On May 5, we recognize South Asian Arrival Day, commemorating the history and contributions of South Asian communities in Canada. Later in the month, on May 21, Ontario Flag Day recognizes a proud symbol of our province’s identity. Together, these observances reflect the diversity, heritage, and shared values that strengthen our communities.
May also offers meaningful moments to celebrate with family and loved ones. Mother’s Day is a special time to recognize and appreciate the incredible role that mothers, grandmothers, and caregivers play in our lives. Later in the month, Victoria Day on Monday, May 18 marks the unofficial start of the summer season. Celebrated annually on the last Monday before May 25 in honour of Queen Victoria’s birthday, it is a great opportunity to enjoy the long weekend and spend time with family and friends.
Every day, people across our community show up to work in roles that support others and keep essential services running. When injuries or illness happen on the job, having the right protections in place is critical for their health, financial stability, and peace of mind. To strengthen these protections, our government is taking action through proposed changes to the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB). Proposed legislation would expand WSIB coverage to an additional 29,000 individuals working in privately operated residential care facilities, retirement homes, and group homes. This change would help close a long-standing gap by ensuring more frontline care staff, including personal support workers, nurses, and other team members, have access to wage-loss benefits, medical coverage, and support if they are injured or become ill on the job. By extending these protections, we are helping create safer workplaces and ensuring those who care for others are supported when they need it most.
In addition, our government is proposing updates to WSIB benefits to better reflect today’s workforce and provide greater financial security for those recovering from workplace injuries. If passed, these changes would increase income replacement benefits from 85 to 90 per cent of a worker’s take-home pay, helping individuals manage the cost of living while they recover. The proposal would also allow eligible individuals to continue receiving benefits past the age of 65 if they had planned to keep working, ensuring they do not lose income they were counting on. Together, these measures aim to strengthen support and help people focus on recovery without added financial stress.
Our office looks forward to celebrating with the community at our annual Mother’s Day celebration. This special gathering is an opportunity to recognize and honour the incredible mothers, grandmothers, and caregivers in our community who give so much of themselves every day. We look forward to bringing neighbours together for an afternoon of appreciation, connection, and celebration. The event will take place on Saturday, May 16, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Malton Community Centre.
As always, my team and I are here to support you. It is a privilege to serve this vibrant and compassionate community. Please do not hesitate to reach out, as we are only a phone call or visit away.
Wishing you and your family a happy, healthy, and wonderful May.

Earth Day
On April 18, 2026, our office hosted its annual Earth Day Community Clean-Up, bringing together residents, families, and youth from across Mississauga–Malton to support a cleaner and greener community.
Volunteers of all ages came together to help remove litter from Serenity Park, the woodlands surrounding the Malton Youth Hub, as well as the area around Lincoln M. Alexander Secondary School, while promoting environmental awareness and
encouraging simple everyday actions such as reducing waste, reusing materials, and recycling.
“Earth Day is an important reminder that caring for our environment is a shared responsibility,” said MPP Deepak Anand. “It was encouraging to see so many families and friends come together to help keep our neighbourhoods clean.”
Volunteers shared their appreciation for the initiative. One father said, “We wanted to do something meaningful together, and it’s a great way to spend time as a family while giving back to the community.” One of the children added, “I had a lot of fun helping clean up, and I feel happy when I get to help keep our neighbourhood clean.”
The Earth Day Community Clean-Up continues to highlight the strong community spirit in Mississauga–Malton and the shared commitment of residents to protecting the environment and maintaining clean public spaces.
Investments In Ontario
Updates from Queen’s Park
Connecting More People to Primary Health Care
Our government is dedicated to ensuring all Ontarians have access to the care they need by strengthening primary care and supporting more access to family doctors across the province.
New changes now in effect will help incentivize family doctors to take on new patients, expand access to after-hours care, and improve the recruitment and retention of more family physicians.
These important steps will help connect more people to timely, reliable care close to home while reducing pressure on hospitals and emergency rooms.

Protecting Ontario’s Workers and Economic Resiliency
Our government has introduced the Protecting Ontario’s Workers and Economic Resiliency (POWER) Act to help strengthen Ontario’s economy, protect workers, and support local businesses.
The POWER Act will reduce unnecessary red tape, create clearer timelines, and ensure faster decisions so businesses can grow, invest, and create more jobs right here in Ontario. By making government processes more efficient and predictable, we are helping employers focus on creating opportunities instead of dealing with delays.
This legislation is about building long-term economic resiliency and ensuring Ontario remains competitive, strong, and ready for the future. Supporting workers means creating the right conditions for businesses to succeed and communities to thrive.

Additionally, our government is taking further steps to protect workers’ paycheques by ensuring employees are not forced to pay out of pocket for required uniforms. Uniforms can be expensive, and workers should not have to cover these costs just to do their jobs. That’s why we are introducing new legislation to ban uniform charges and put more money back into the pockets of Ontario workers

Introducing the New Peak Performance Energy Program
Our government is reducing costs for families and businesses across Ontario while protecting the reliability of our province’s electric grid through the expansion of the Energy Efficiency Framework with the new Peak Performance program.
This program will help lower electricity costs by encouraging smarter energy use during times of high demand, helping reduce pressure on the grid while keeping energy affordable and reliable for everyone.
By investing in energy efficiency, we are supporting families, helping businesses save money, and building a stronger, more sustainable future for Ontario.

Expanding Ontario’s Rail Networks
As part of our government’s plan to connect Ontario, we are continuing to invest in better transit and stronger transportation networks for communities across the province.
Starting July 6, GO train service will be extended to Stratford, providing daily round-trip service between Stratford and Toronto. This expansion will help relieve gridlock, improve access to jobs and education, and support local tourism and economic growth.

At the same time, tunnelling is now officially underway on the Ontario Line, a major milestone for one of the province’s most important transit projects. The 15-stop Ontario Line will make it easier for hundreds of thousands of people to travel across the GTA each day while reducing congestion and improving commute times.
Our government remains committed to connecting people, supporting economic growth, and building the infrastructure Ontario needs for the future.

This award is an important way to honour those who continue to make a difference across our province and inspire others through their service.

Expanding WSIB Coverage
Our government is taking important steps to better protect Ontario workers by strengthening Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) supports across the province.
No one should have to worry about paying their bills after a workplace injury. That is why we are proposing the first WSIB benefit increase in nearly 30 years, helping injured workers receive stronger financial support when they need it most.

We are also expanding WSIB coverage to protect more than 29,000 frontline workers in long-term care homes. These dedicated workers spend their lives caring for others, and they deserve the security and protection that comes with better workplace coverage.
By improving benefits and expanding support, our government is delivering on our plan to protect Ontario’s workers and ensure they have the care and financial stability they deserve.

Supporting Ontario’s Next Generation of Teachers
Ontario is strengthening the pipeline of highly skilled K-12 teachers by making it easier, faster, and more affordable for new educators to enter the classroom.
Our proposed changes would help future teachers save up to $3,000 in tuition, condense teacher education from two years to one year, and better recognize prior education and work experience.
These changes will help address teacher shortages, support students with access to qualified educators, and ensure Ontario schools continue to provide strong learning environments for the next generation.
