As we say goodbye to cold days, and begin to fully embrace spring in full bloom, with flowers and plants starting to blossom, animals emerging from hibernation, and rainfall helping our gardens and green spaces come back to life. This is the time of year we start planting the seeds that will grow in the months ahead, whether through gardening, taking on spring cleaning projects at home or enjoying local parks and trails. For college and university students, this is a busy and exciting time of year as they prepare for final exams, wrap up the academic year, and get ready to return home after months of hard work and dedication.

This month is filled with meaningful holidays and celebrations that reflect the diversity and shared values of our community. We started the month with the observance of Passover, a significant time in the Jewish faith that commemorates freedom, reflection, and the importance of family and tradition. Shortly after, families as well as Good Friday and Easter, important days in the Christian faith that reflect on sacrifice, hope, and renewal, often bringing people together in reflection and celebration. Later in the month, Vaisakhi marks the harvest season and holds deep cultural and religious significance. Around the same time, Puthandu and Mesha Sankranti on April 14 mark the beginning of the traditional New Year in parts of India, symbolizing renewal, prosperity, and new beginnings. April concludes with Earth Day, reminding us of the importance of caring for our environment and taking steps to keep our communities clean and healthy for future generations. In Ontario, we recognize several important commemorations throughout April, including Sikh Heritage Month, which highlights the history, culture, and contributions of Sikh Canadians across the province. On April 2, we mark Pope John Paul II Day, followed by Vimy Ridge Day on April 9, honouring the courage and sacrifice of Canadian soldiers. We also observe Holocaust Memorial Day, Yom ha-Shoah, later in April, a time to remember and reflect on the lives lost and to reaffirm our commitment to stand against hatred and discrimination in all its forms. Together, these observances highlight the diversity, resilience, and shared values that make Ontario such a strong and vibrant place to live.

Our government understand strong classrooms are the foundation of student success, ensuring teachers and students have the tools they need to create a positive learning environment. Across Ontario, educators continue to support students every day by fostering creativity, curiosity, and growth in the classroom, that is why Ontario is launching a new Classroom Supplies Fund. This investment will help provide essential classroom materials such as paper, pencils, art supplies, and other learning resources that enhance the day-to-day learning experience.

Keeping families safe begins with making sure communities are prepared for the unexpected. As Ontario faces increasing challenges from extreme weather and other emergencies, having strong local response systems in place is more important than ever. To build on this work, our government is investing $5 million to increase local emergency preparedness and response. This funding will support municipalities and community partners in strengthening emergency plans, improving coordination, and enhancing their ability to respond to natural disasters and other emergencies. By investing in local readiness and response capacity, Ontario is helping ensure communities are better equipped to protect residents, reduce risks, and recover more quickly when emergencies occur.

Looking ahead, our office is excited to continue bringing the community together through upcoming events. In May, we will host a Mother’s Day celebration at the Malton Community Centre recognizing the important role mothers and caregivers play in our families and community.

Mother’s Day Celebration

Join me for this year’s annual Mother’s Day celebration!

This special gathering is an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the incredible mothers, grandmothers, and caregivers in our community who give so much of themselves every day. International Women’s Day Celebration

On March 12, 2026, MPP Deepak Anand’s Community Office proudly hosted its annual International Women’s Day event, bringing together inspiring women from across Mississauga–Malton for an afternoon of connection, recognition, and empowerment. The gathering created a welcoming space for women entrepreneurs, professionals, and community leaders to share their experiences and celebrate their achievements.

Guests had the opportunity to network, exchange ideas, and build meaningful connections with others who are making a difference across various sectors, including manufacturing and logistics. The event highlighted the important role women continue to play in driving innovation, strengthening our local economy, and uplifting future generations.

“It was inspiring to see so many incredible women come together, share their journeys, and support one another,” said MPP Deepak Anand. “Their leadership, resilience, and dedication continue to shape a stronger and more vibrant Mississauga–Malton.”

Attendees expressed their appreciation for the opportunity to connect and learn from one another, with many noting how valuable it was to be in a space that encourages collaboration and growth.

The International Women’s Day event was a meaningful reminder of the power of community and the importance of celebrating the achievements of women not just today, but throughout the year. Investments In Ontario

$8.8 Billion in combined provincial and federal funding is being to help build homes, transit and communities.

Funding comes from the new Canada-Ontario Partnership to Build in support of building faster, supporting economic development and protecting jobs.

$228 Million is being invested to help more than 25,000 workers across Ontario retrain and upgrade their skills.

Funding supports workers in key industries like steel, forestry and auto manufacturing as the province works to protect Ontario jobs and economic growth.

2026 Ontario Budget: A Plan to Protect Ontario

This month, the Ontario government introduced the 2026 Budget, A Plan to Protect Ontario. If passed, it will help lower costs for workers and businesses while keeping life affordable for families through targeted investments in key public services.

The plan focuses on strengthening Ontario’s economy by supporting job creation, investing in infrastructure, and building more homes faster. If passed, it would also continue investments in health care, including improving access to primary care and reducing wait times.

Ontario Launching Classroom Supplies Fund to Support Elementary School Teachers and Students

Teachers play an essential role in shaping the future of our communities, and they should be supported with the tools they need to help every student succeed. Too often, educators have had to reach into their own pockets to cover the cost of basic classroom supplies. This is something that should not be expected of those who are already giving so much to our children’s education.

That is why our government is taking action by investing directly in classrooms across Ontario. Through this initiative, each homeroom class will receive $750 per year to help cover the cost of essential materials. This funding can be used for items such as chalk, calculators, craft supplies, and stationery, ensuring that students have access to the resources they need to learn, create, and thrive.

By easing the financial burden on teachers and equipping classrooms with necessary supplies, we are supporting both educators and students in meaningful ways. This investment reflects our commitment to strengthening Ontario’s education system and creating a more supportive learning environment for all.

Ontario Secures Groundbreaking National Energy Corridor Agreement

Amid growing global uncertainty, it is more important than ever to strengthen Canada’s economic resilience and energy security. Our government is focused on working collaboratively with provinces and territories from coast to coast to build a stronger, more self-reliant future.

Through the new National Energy Corridor agreement, we are partnering across jurisdictions to enhance and modernize our energy infrastructure. This includes strengthening our electricity grid, improving the movement of energy across regions, and ensuring that communities have access to reliable and sustainable power for generations to come.

This collaborative approach will not only support long-term economic growth but also help create jobs, attract investment, and reinforce Canada’s position as a leader in responsible energy development.

Summer Company Program Still Accepting Applications

Are you a student between the ages of 15 and 29 with an interest in entrepreneurship? This summer could be your opportunity to turn a business idea into reality.

Through our government’s Summer Company program, eligible students can receive up to $3,000 in funding, along with valuable training and mentorship to help start and run their own business. This program is designed to support young entrepreneurs as they gain hands-on experience, build confidence, and develop important business skills.

If you are interested in applying, be sure to take note of the upcoming dates. A learning session will be held on March 31 to provide more information about the program and application process.

Ontario Opening HOV Lanes to More Drivers on Provincial Highways

Our government is committed to connecting communities and making it easier for people to get where they need to go. As part of this work, we are proposing changes to allow High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes to be opened during off-peak hours.

This proposal aims to make better use of existing road infrastructure by reducing gridlock and improving traffic flow when demand is lower. By optimizing how our highways are used, we can help drivers spend less time on the road and more time at home with their families.

Improving travel times and easing congestion are key parts of our broader commitment to building a more efficient and connected transportation network across Ontario. Through initiatives like Connecting Ontario, we are continuing to look for practical solutions that support commuters and strengthen our growing communities.
