August Enewsletter

Dear Friends and Neighbours,

August often feels like summer at its very best. The days are still long, the weather invites us outdoors, and the Civic Holiday long weekend gives many families an opportunity to spend quality time together before the busy back-to-school season begins. Whether you are camping, visiting one of Ontario’s beautiful parks or lakes, attending a local festival, taking a road trip, or simply enjoying a backyard barbecue with family and friends, I hope you find time to relax, recharge, and make lasting memories. For students preparing to return to high school, college, or university, these final weeks of summer are a special opportunity to enjoy a well-earned break before the start of a new school year.

August is a month of reflection, celebration, and recognition across Ontario. We begin the month by observing Emancipation Day on August 1 and recognizing Emancipation Month, commemorating the day the Slavery Abolition Act came into effect across the British Empire in 1834. This important occasion provides an opportunity to reflect on the resilience, achievements, and lasting contributions of Black communities while recognizing the important role they continue to play in strengthening Ontario’s cultural, social, and economic fabric. On August 15, we celebrate National Acadian Day, recognizing the history, culture, and enduring contributions of Acadian communities to our country. Later this month, residents across our community will observe Mawlid al Nabi, commemorating the birth of the Prophet Muhammad through prayer, reflection, charitable acts, and gatherings with family and community. Residents will also celebrate Raksha Bandhan, a cherished festival that honours the special bond between brothers and sisters through the values of love, protection, and lifelong support. As summer continues, many families will also enjoy the Canadian National Exhibition, one of Ontario’s longest-standing traditions that brings people together to celebrate agriculture, entertainment, food, and community. Together, these occasions reflect the rich diversity and vibrant traditions that continue to strengthen Mississauga–Malton and communities across Ontario.

Critical minerals are essential to building the technologies that power our everyday lives, from electric vehicles and batteries to advanced manufacturing and clean energy systems. As global demand continues to grow, strengthening Ontario’s critical minerals supply chain is key to attracting investment, creating good-paying jobs, and building a more competitive and self-reliant economy. That is why our government is investing an additional $4 million through the Critical Minerals Innovation Fund to support made-in-Ontario research, innovation, and new technologies. By strengthening Ontario’s critical minerals sector, we are helping secure domestic supply chains while supporting long-term economic growth and prosperity.

Young entrepreneurs play an important role in driving innovation, creating jobs, and strengthening local economies across Ontario. Providing aspiring business owners with the tools, mentorship, and resources they need to succeed helps ensure the next generation of entrepreneurs can turn great ideas into thriving businesses. That is why our government is investing an additional $6 million in Futurpreneur to provide nearly 1,000 young entrepreneurs with financing, mentorship, networking opportunities, and business planning support. By investing in the next generation of business leaders, Ontario is helping create new opportunities for innovation, economic growth, and good-paying jobs in communities across the province.

As always, my team and I are here to support you. It is a privilege to serve this vibrant and diverse community. Please do not hesitate to reach out, as we are only a phone call or visit away.

Wishing you and your family a safe, healthy, and wonderful August.

Canada Day

Canada Day is always one of my favourite days of the year, and it was a privilege to celebrate with so many families and friends across the best city in the best country in the world!

From the incredible festivities at Celebration Square to the warm welcomes at Madaniyya Academy, Jame Masjid and Westwood Square, every stop was filled with pride, unity and the spirit that makes Canada so special.

Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate, share a smile and showcase the diversity, kindness and community that make Mississauga such an amazing place to call home. I am proud to represent a community that truly reflects the very best of Canada.

$8.8 Billion in combined provincial and federal funding is being invested to support housing-enabling infrastructure across Ontario.

This investment will support Canada’s National Shipbuilding Strategy, strengthen Ontario shipbuilders and create thousands of jobs across the marine sector.

$10 Million in joint Provincial & Federal funding is being invested to protect and expand Ontario’s green spaces.
Funding is being used to create 12 new provincial parks and conservation reserves, expand 50 more and permanantly protect nearly 48,000 acres forests, wetlands and ecologically sensitive areas across the province.

Ontario Trillium Foundation Seed Grant Applications Are Open

Applications are now open for the 2026 Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) Seed Grant program, allowing eligible nonprofits, Indigenous communities and organizations, and municipalities to strengthen the programs and services they provide to their communities.

Seed Grants support projects that build organizational resilience or program capacity, adopt new technologies, improve governance and planning, and enhance the skills of staff and volunteers. These investments help organizations grow, adapt and better meet the needs of the people they serve.

Each year, the Ontario Trillium Foundation invests millions of dollars in community projects across the province, helping organizations expand their impact and improve the quality of life for Ontarians.

Powering Growth with the Etobicoke Greenway Transmission Line

I was proud to join Minister Stephen Lecce in celebrating the completion of the Etobicoke Greenway Transmission Line, delivered on time and under budget. This major infrastructure project will provide enough reliable electricity to power approximately 300,000 homes across Toronto, Mississauga and Oakville while supporting continued growth and economic development.

As Ontario continues to attract new investment, build more homes and create good-paying jobs, expanding the province’s electricity infrastructure is essential to meeting growing demand. The new transmission line strengthens the local electricity grid, improves reliability and helps ensure our communities have the power they need for years to come.

Building the Eglinton Crosstown West Extension

Our government continued making progress on the Eglinton Crosstown West Extension, with construction underway at four stations. This major transit project is supporting approximately 4,600 jobs each year while helping build a stronger, more connected transportation network across the Greater Toronto Area.

Once complete, the 9.2-kilometre extension will bring the Eglinton Crosstown LRT farther west, reducing gridlock and providing approximately 70,000 daily commuters with faster, more convenient access to jobs, businesses and communities across the GTA.

Building Canada’s Energy Future

Did you know Sarnia is home to one of Canada’s largest oil refineries? Our government has unveiled a plan to work with Alberta to build the proposed Northern Shield Energy Corridor, strengthening Canada’s energy security and economy.

The proposed 3,300-kilometre pipeline would connect Alberta’s oil sands to Ontario’s refineries, helping move more Canadian energy across the country, support good-paying jobs and reduce reliance on foreign markets.

Ontario Expands Opportunities for Local Producers

Ontario is continuing to lead the way in breaking down interprovincial trade barriers and strengthening Canada’s economy.

A landmark agreement with eight other provinces will make it easier for Ontario breweries, wineries and distilleries to reach new customers across the country. This will help local producers grow their businesses, expand into new markets and bring more Ontario-made products to consumers.

The agreement will also give Canadians greater choice and convenience when purchasing beer, wine and spirits from participating provinces, while supporting jobs and economic growth across Ontario’s beverage alcohol sector.
