December E Newsletter

Message from Your MPP

Greetings, Mississauga-Malton!

As December unfolds, it’s the perfect time to celebrate family, togetherness, and the warmth of the festive season with loved ones. With winter break just around the corner, let’s make the most of this special time to create lasting memories to cherish forever.

With the joy of the holiday season in the air, we have many wonderful opportunities to celebrate this month, including Christmas, Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, and Rizal Day. May this season bring you joy, peace, and happiness as you celebrate these meaningful and diverse occasions with your family and friends.

I’m proud to highlight some of Ontario’s achievements from November including; investing $3 million over three years in Helmets to Hardhats Canada to help 650 active and former Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) members transition to civilian life by training them for careers in Ontario’s construction sector, investing over $74 Million through the next round of Skills Development Fund Capital Stream and investing more than $500 million to educate new nurses and increasing opportunities for current nurses to access specialized training to upskill while on the job.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone for attending the Mississauga-Malton Remembrance Day ceremony last month. It was a privilege to come together to honour our veterans for their incredible sacrifices and service. I look forward to seeing you on December 15, 2024, from 1-3 pm for the Christmas Open House at our office located at 11-7895 Tranmere Drive, Mississauga.

As we look ahead to the New Year, I am excited to continue working alongside you to build a stronger, more inclusive Mississauga-Malton. I wish you and your family a safe, healthy, and joyful holiday season and a bright start to the New Year!

Best wishes,

Deepak Anand

Updates from Queen’s Park

Modernizing Ontario’s Healthcare

The Ontario government is proud to introduce the More Convenient Care Act, 2024, a significant step forward in our commitment to delivering high-quality, publicly funded health care that meets the needs of Ontarians at every stage of life.

This proposed legislation will enhance access to convenient care, strengthen health system governance, and build healthier communities across the province. Key highlights include:

  • Streamlining Public Health Agencies: Voluntary mergers of nine Local Public Health Agencies into four new entities to improve capacity, efficiency, and staff recruitment.
  • Improving Transparency: New reporting requirements for healthcare staffing agencies to disclose administrative mark-ups, ensuring better governance and resource use.
  • Modernizing Patient Access: Advancing electronic health records to provide eligible Ontarians with secure online access to their personal health information through Health811.
  • Expanding Care Options: Enabling nurse practitioners to complete and sign mandatory blood testing forms and reviewing mental health and addiction service frameworks for consistency.

This legislation builds on Your Health: A Plan for Connected and Convenient Care, reinforcing our promise to connect Ontarians with the care they need, when and where they need it. Together, we are shaping a healthcare system that is modern, transparent, and effective for generations to come.

Cracking Down on Immigration Scams

Our government is combatting immigration scams by introducing stricter penalties for offenders and launching a public education campaign to help newcomers recognize and report scams.

Ontario is a place of opportunity, and we won’t tolerate anyone taking advantage of those trying to build a better life here.

We must protect immigrants from exploitation, ensure ethical practices in immigration services, and hold fraudulent operators accountable.
