January Enews Letter 2026
January 9, 2026
January is a time to reset, set new goals, and ease back into routine after the winter break. Many of us take this month to write down resolutions, donate clothing generously, and enjoy a good book as we stay warm by the fireplace. With Christmas lights still brightening our neighbourhoods, this season reminds us of the warmth and hope that carry our year ahead.
I want to thank everyone for joining our Annual Christmas Open House in December. It was wonderful to welcome families, friends, and neighbours for an afternoon filled with festive music, delicious food, and holiday cheer. Children enjoyed activities and treats, and residents had the chance to reconnect and celebrate the spirit of the season. I am grateful to all the volunteers, partners, my staff, and guests for creating such a memorable gathering.
January marks many celebrations and moments of reflection. We begin the month by recognizing Alzheimer’s Awareness Month, highlighting supports that help people living with dementia and their families navigate daily life. This includes Finding Your Way, a program that helps people living with dementia, their families, care partners, and communities recognize the risks of going missing, prepare for these situations, and support people in living safely within the community. On January 21, we commemorate Lincoln Alexander Day, honouring the life and legacy of the Honourable Lincoln MacCauley Alexander, Canada’s first Black Member of Parliament and first Black federal Cabinet Minister. His impact continues to be seen in our community through institutions such as Lincoln M. Alexander Secondary School in Malton, named in his honour. Throughout the month, we also recognize Tamil Heritage Month and mark a number of cultural and faith celebrations, including Orthodox Christmas and the Orthodox New Year, Thai Pongal, Lohri, and Makar Sankranti, as well as International Holocaust Remembrance Day on January 27. Together, these observances reflect the diversity, shared values, and traditions that strengthen our community.
Our government continues to strengthen energy infrastructure to support long-term growth and protect good jobs. A new $30 million investment by Hitachi Energy will expand and upgrade facilities in Stoney Creek and Cambridge, sustaining 155 existing jobs and creating 30 new good-paying positions. This project supports growing energy needs by strengthening a Canadian-made supply chain and enhancing capacity to build, refurbish, and service critical transformer equipment. As one of the largest energy expansions in our history moves forward, investments like this help ensure a reliable power system that supports families, businesses, and communities for generations to come.
Looking ahead, I am excited to invite you to our annual Paint Night this February at our community office. This creative and joyful gathering brings neighbours together to relax, connect, and explore the arts. Light refreshments and snacks will be provided. We hope you will join us for an evening of fun and creativity.
As always, my team and I are here to support you. It is a privilege to serve this vibrant and compassionate community. Please do not hesitate to reach out, as we are only a phone call or visit away.
Wishing you and your family a happy, healthy, and joyful New Year.
Year End Member Statement

Wishing everyone the best in 2026!
Christmas Open House
On December 27, 2025, MPP Deepak Anand’s Community Office hosted its Annual Christmas Open House, welcoming families from Mississauga–Malton to celebrate the holiday season together.
Guests were welcomed into a beautifully decorated space transformed into a winter wonderland, featuring sparkling holiday lights, a Christmas tree, and a charming miniature village display. Families enjoyed food, snacks, and hot beverages, while children of all ages took part in hands-on activities such as bracelet making and holiday-themed activity sheets. Every child also received a gift, adding to the excitement of the day.
The Open House offered families a chance to spend quality time together, take photos at festive displays, and enjoy the sights and sounds of the season.
“In winter, I can always count on our Mississauga–Malton community to bring warmth and light to the season,” said MPP Deepak Anand. “Seeing families come together to celebrate, laugh, and create memories is what the holidays are all about. I want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a happy, healthy New Year, and thank the volunteers and everyone who helped make this event possible.”
Families shared their appreciation for the annual celebration. One mother said, “My family and I had so much fun taking pictures at the Christmas arch, putting on the reindeer hats, and being immersed in the winter wonderland. It was such a joyful experience.” Another mother added, “My kids loved the Christmas decorations and the presents so much. They can’t wait to come back again next year.”
The Annual Christmas Open House continues to be a meaningful way for the community to gather, celebrate the season, and strengthen local connections.

Ontario Science Centre Opening Interim Location This Year
Hands-on learning plays a vital role in helping students understand concepts, spark creativity, and discover new passions. That’s why our government is supporting the Ontario Science Centre as it prepares to open a new interim home at Harbourfront Centre in 2026.
This new location will ensure interactive science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) programming remains accessible for families, students, and educators across Ontario. The Ontario Science Centre has long inspired curiosity through engaging, hands-on experiences that bring learning to life.
By establishing an interim home, the Science Centre can continue delivering high-quality programming while inspiring the next generation of innovators and problem-solvers. Supporting institutions like the Ontario Science Centre helps ensure STEM education remains strong and accessible across our province.
