June E-Newsletter
Message From Your MPP
Dear Residents,
With summer right around the corner, students must be thrilled to start putting away their pencils and picking up their sunglasses. Wishing everyone a joyous June filled with family bonding, exploration and growth.
This month we recognize Italian, Filipino, and Portuguese Heritage Months. June also brings forth a variety of significant occasions, including National Aboriginal Day, Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day, Shavuot, and Eid-al-Adha. May these celebrations be filled with joy as we honour their importance.
I am proud to be part of a government aimed at enhancing residents’ lives through various initiatives including; an additional $17.5M investment for resources to reduce classroom distractions, a $25.5M investment over two years under the Anti-Hate Security and Prevention Grant to create safer communities across Ontario, and $51M over three years to fund supports for police and prosecutors tackling auto theft by organized crime networks. These are just some of the many ways our government is creating a better and safer Ontario.
A huge thank you to everyone for joining us at the Mississauga-Malton Mother’s Day celebrations. Your invaluable presence made the event a huge success. I look forward to joining the community again on June 9th between 6-8 pm at Frank McKechnie Community Centre for Mississauga-Malton Father’s Day Celebrations. It’s a great opportunity to recognize the significant contributions of the fathers in our community, enjoy delicious food, and celebrate the spirit of togetherness.
As always, my team and I are here to serve you. If you have any questions, concerns, or ideas for improving our community, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Let’s keep working together to build a stronger, more resilient Mississauga-Malton.
Wishing you all a wonderful June filled with warmth, joy, and community spirit.
Warm regards,
Deepak Anand
Thank you, everyone, for coming out to join the Mother’s Day celebration on Sunday 5th May, it was an unforgettable day filled with activities, quizzes, and delectable food, all aimed at honouring and cherishing the incredible mothers who play such vital roles in our lives.
It warmed my heart to see the special bonds of the mothers and their children while participating in the activities. I had amazing conversations with families, thank you for sharing your childhood stories.
Mothers give us the greatest gift — the gift of life. They protect us, nurture us, and they help us achieve our full potential. I am indebted to my mother for whatever I have achieved and contributed to the community. I cannot thank my mother and my wife, the mother of my lovely two children, enough for their unwavering support in helping me reach where I am today.
Father’s Day Celebration
Make sure to join me this Sunday to celebrate the fathers in our lives and what it means to be a dad!

Modernizing Ontario’s Secondary School System
Ontario’s students are our future! That’s why our government is making some of the biggest changes to the Ontario secondary school diploma in over 20 years!
We are consulting with parents, teachers and other experts to determine what skills students need better preparation in for life after graduation.
Our plan for getting back to basics and ensuring the future prosperity of Ontario relies on six key areas identified for improvement:
- A new financial literacy graduation requirement to ensure students exit Ontario’s school system with both literacy and practical financial literacy skills.
- The return of a modernized home economics program teaching important life skills such as nutritious cooking, changing a tire, sewing a button, using first aid, personal responsibility and basic economics.
- Ensuring teachers hold basic competency in math. Teacher applicants to the Ontario College of Teachers must pass the Math Proficiency Test beginning in February 2025.
- A wholesale revitalization of guidance and career education to support students’ understanding of local labour market needs and pathways to good careers.
- Career coaching for Grade 9 and 10 students and to explore new pathways into STEM and skilled trades.
- Return of the student exit survey to benchmark success and garner feedback on the impact of reforms with an emphasis on guidance.
