Message From Your MPP

Dear Friends and Neighbours,

As we welcome summer, we look forward to sunny days, longer evenings, and more time outdoors enjoying local parks, trails, and community spaces. This is the final stretch of the school year for elementary and high school students, with exams, yearbook signings, and graduations just ahead. It is a time filled with accomplishment, gratitude, and anticipation for what comes next. Families are also making the most of the season, gathering with loved ones, friends, and neighbours for barbecues and outdoor get-togethers, strengthening connections and sharing time together.

Across Ontario, June is a time to recognize and celebrate the diverse cultures and communities that make our province so special. We begin with Ontario Day on June 1, recognizing our shared identity and pride in the province we call home. We also mark Portugal Day, United Empire Loyalists’ Day, and Somali Heritage Week. In addition, we observe Filipino, Italian, Portuguese Heritage Months, and Indigenous History Month.

June also brings meaningful moments of reflection, celebration, and togetherness across many faiths and traditions. Father’s Day is a special opportunity to recognize and appreciate fathers and father figures who play an important role in our lives. They often provide guidance, support, and encouragement, helping shape who we become. This day is a chance to show gratitude for their care, strength, and presence, and to recognize the many ways they contribute to our families and communities. Throughout the month, we also recognize important observances that reflect the diversity of our province. From June 10 to 12, we observe Shavuot, a significant Jewish holiday commemorating the giving of the Torah. On June 16 and 17, we mark the Islamic New Year (Hijri New Year), a time of reflection and renewal for Muslim communities. On June 18, we recognize Sri Guru Arjun Dev Ji’s Martyrdom Day, an important day in Sikh history honouring sacrifice and faith. On June 25 and 26, we observe Ashura, a day of deep spiritual significance marked by reflection, remembrance, and devotion. Together, these observances highlight the richness of traditions that strengthen and connect our community.

Every day, people across Ontario rely on skilled trades and hands-on training to build strong communities and support a growing economy. Ensuring access to high-quality apprenticeship opportunities is essential to preparing the next generation of workers and meeting the needs of key sectors across the province. To support this, our government is expanding access to apprenticeship training across the Greater Toronto Area. This investment will help reduce barriers for apprentices by increasing training capacity and improving access to modern facilities and equipment. By strengthening these pathways, more individuals will have the opportunity to gain in-demand skills, complete their training, and enter rewarding, good-paying careers.

Preventive health care plays a vital role in detecting illness early, improving outcomes, and supporting healthier communities across Ontario. When individuals have better access to screening and early diagnosis, conditions can often be treated more effectively and lives can be saved. That is why our government is taking action to improve access to life-saving colon cancer screening. Ontario is lowering the eligibility age for screening, helping more people detect potential health concerns earlier. This change will make it easier for individuals to access preventive care and ensure that more Ontarians can benefit from early detection and timely treatment.

Our community is strengthened by the many volunteers, leaders, and everyday heroes who make a difference in the lives of others. If you know someone whose dedication and service deserve recognition, we encourage you to nominate them for our 2026 Remarkable Citizen Awards by Monday, June 8.

Mother’s Day Celebration

Thank you, everyone for coming out to join our Mother’s Day celebration at Malton Community Centre on Saturday, May 16th.

It warmed my heart to see the special bonds between mothers and their children while participating in the activities.

I had amazing conversations with families, thank you for sharing your stories of what it means to be a mom and how great yours are/were.

“Mothers give us the greatest gift — the gift of life. They protect us, nurture us, and they help us achieve our full potential. I am indebted to my mother for whatever I have achieved and contributed to the community. I cannot thank my mother and my wife, the mother of my lovely two children, enough for their unwavering support in helping me reach where I am today”.

Mississauga-Malton is privileged to have dedicated volunteers and local heroes that make our community a better place to live, work, and thrive. In recognition of these phenomenal contributors, MPP Anand created the “Remarkable Citizen” Awards in 2019.

Investments In Ontario

$1.7 Billion is being invested to prepare more students across the province for in-demand careers.

Funding will be used to create up to 70,000 new seats at publicly assisted colleges and universities for high-demand sectors such as health care, STEM, education and skilled trades.

+$20 Million is being invested to support local events and festivals across the province.

Funding comes through Experience Ontario 2026, and will be used to support nearly 400 events and festivals that help boost tourism, create jobs and celebrate the best of the province’s local communities.

$14.3 Million in combined funding is being invested by Canada, Ontario & Mississauga to support public transit infrastructure.

Funding will be used to upgrade bus storage and maintenance garages, as well as the construction of three new bike paths on Aquitaine Avenue, Argentia Road, and Millcreek Drive.

$5 Million is being invested to strengthen Ontario’s position as a global leader in life sciences.

This funding comes through the fourth round of the Life Sciences Innovation Fund, and will 10 companies across the province develop and launch Ontario-made medical technologies.

Updates from Queen’s Park

Shovels are in the Ground at Ontario Place!

Construction is officially underway on the new Ontario Science Centre at Ontario Place. Scheduled to open in 2029, the state-of-the-art facility will create more than 1,000 local jobs and welcome millions of visitors each year.

Highlights of the new Science Centre include:

A modern mainland facility featuring interactive exhibits, immersive experiences, workshops, and hands-on learning opportunities.
Fully renovated Science Centre Pods that will host new science-themed programming and exhibits.
A revitalized Cinesphere with upgraded IMAX technology, improved acoustics, refreshed interior and exterior spaces, and nearly double the seating capacity of the former OMNIMAX Theatre.

This investment will help inspire the next generation of innovators while strengthening tourism, creating jobs, and expanding access to science education for families across Ontario.

Expanding the Scope of Practice for Pharmacists & Other Health Professionals

Ontario is expanding the scope of practice for pharmacists and other health professionals to make it faster and easier for families to access convenient care close to home.

Beginning in July 2026, pharmacists will be able to administer additional publicly funded vaccines for six diseases and assess and prescribe for nine more common ailments, helping reduce pressure on doctors’ offices and emergency rooms. This builds on the success of Ontario’s pharmacy care program, which has already delivered more than 2.4 million assessments across the province.

Ontario Has Lowered the Age for Colon Cancer Screenings to 45

Our government is helping more Ontarians access life-saving cancer screening by lowering the eligibility age for routine colorectal cancer screening from 50 to 45.

This change will allow more than one million additional people to get screened earlier, helping detect colorectal cancer sooner when treatment is often more effective. By expanding access to preventive care, we are improving health outcomes and ensuring Ontarians can get the care they need, when and where they need it.

If you’re eligible, talk to your healthcare provider about getting screened. Early detection saves lives.

Protecting Communities and Keeping Ontario Safe

Keeping Ontario’s communities safe remains a top priority for our government. That’s why we have introduced the Protecting Ontario’s Streets & Communities Act, 2026, legislation that would strengthen public safety, support victims of crime, and provide law enforcement and regulatory authorities with additional tools to keep our streets, transit systems, and neighbourhoods safe.

Key measures include:

Cracking down on illegal drug use on transit to improve safety for passengers and transit workers.
Supporting victims of human trafficking by helping survivors escape debts imposed by traffickers.
Strengthening oversight of the towing industry through enhanced licensing and enforcement measures.
Modernizing private security regulations to improve accountability and professional standards.
Providing stronger enforcement tools to help address illegal and unsafe activities.

These measures build on our government’s commitment to protecting Ontario communities, supporting victims, and ensuring families feel safe where they live, work, and travel.
