Message From Your MPP

Dear Friends and Neighbours,

As we spring into March and begin trading our boots and shovels for running shoes and umbrellas once again, we welcome brighter days and the joy of a new season. With the leaves beginning to bud and flowers slowly returning, this time of year reminds us that growth, renewal, and fresh beginnings are all around us. As the days grow warmer and longer, there is a renewed excitement in the air as families look forward to spending more time outdoors, whether signing their children up for soccer, baseball, tennis, cricket, or simply enjoying the sunshine in our parks and neighbourhoods.

On March 8, we recognize International Women’s Day to celebrate the leadership, strength, and achievements of women in Mississauga–Malton and around the world. I want to extend my sincere thanks to the amazing women in our community for inspiring us everyday with their passion, resilience, and leadership. Our government remains committed to prioritizing equal opportunity and taking meaningful action to support women in building rewarding careers. In October, through investments in the Skills Development Fund, we have announced more than $8.6 million to help over 1,700 women across the GTA access training and prepare for good-paying, in-demand jobs in the skilled trades. Today, more than 390,000 women are working in skilled trades-related occupations across Ontario, and female apprenticeship registrations have increased by over 11 per cent. By expanding access to training, mentorship, and hands-on learning opportunities, we are helping break down barriers and create pathways for women to thrive in high-growth industries.

In Ontario, we mark several heritage and cultural observances throughout March, including Bangladeshi Heritage Month, Hellenic Heritage Month, and Persian Heritage Month, honouring the lasting contributions these communities have made to our province’s social, cultural, economic, and political life. Early in the month, many families will celebrate Holi, the Festival of Colours, on March 4, a joyful celebration of unity and new beginnings. On March 17, we recognize Irish Heritage Day, celebrating the rich history and enduring contributions of Irish Canadians to our province and country. Ugadi on March 19 marks the beginning of the New Year in the Hindu calendar for many families. Many families will also be preparing to celebrate Eid al-Fitr around March 19 or 20, marking the conclusion of Ramadan and a time of gratitude, generosity, and community. March concludes with Mahavir Jayanti on March 31, commemorating the birth of Lord Mahavira, one of the most significant observances in the Jain community. Together, these observances highlight the cultural richness, shared traditions, and spirit of inclusion that make our community such a vibrant place to live, work, and raise a family.

Our government is continuing to strengthen Ontario’s health-care system by investing an additional $30 million to expand the province’s primary care workforce. This investment will help upskill more than 1,400 registered nurses, create 170 new primary care nurse practitioner education seats, and add up to 150 physician assistant education seats as part of Ontario’s $2.1 billion Primary Care Action Plan. By increasing the number of trained health-care professionals across the province, we are helping connect more people to primary care and reducing pressure on hospitals. These measures will improve access to family doctors and team-based care, ensuring families in Mississauga–Malton and across Ontario can receive high-quality health services closer to home.

Family Paint Night

Thank you for joining me at the 8th Annual Family Paint Night!

Your presence on that coldest day filled my heart with warmth.

This year’s event brought together families, friends, neighbours, and community members for an afternoon of creativity, laughter, and connection. Seeing parents painting alongside their children, friends encouraging one another, and families making memories together truly captured the spirit of Mississauga–Malton.

Your participation turned this event into a celebration of family, friendship, and community pride. Thank you for being part of this special tradition. I’m already looking forward to welcoming you, your family, and your friends back again next year for the 9th Annual Family Paint Night.

I had a great time and appreciate everyone who attended, along with the community organizations and volunteers for helping make the day run smoothly. A special shout-out to Hansa Haus for providing the venue and hosting us in their beautiful venue.

Investments In Ontario

$6.4 Billion is being invested to support post-secondary institutions.

Funding is being used to protect postsecondary students’ access to the education they need to launch successful careers, build long-term sustainability in the postsecondary sector and support the world-class research being conducted at Ontario universities and colleges.

$250 Million is being invested to expand medical isotope production at Bruce Power.

Funding will help ensure patients have access to life-saving therapies while empowering Indigenous communities to participate meaningfully in Ontario’s clean energy economy — protecting Ontario today and building the future of the province.

$250 Million is being invested to support road safety initiatives across the province.

Ontario municipalities can now apply for additional funding to support increased road safety measures in school zones and community safety zones without using speed cameras that make life more expensive for drivers and taxpayers.

$141 Million is being invested by Coca-Cola Canada to expand its Brampton bottling plant.

This expansion will introduce a new state-of-the-art production line, capable of producing at least 20 million additional cases annually, creating up to 500 good-paying jobs during construction and reinforcing the province’s position as a leader in beverage manufacturing and agri-food production.

$30 Million is being invested to expand Ontario’s primary care workforce.

$21 Million is being invested to train staff in long-term care homes.

Funding will be used to help 700 frontline staff gain new qualifications to advance in their careers and ensure long-termcare residents get the quality of care and quality of life they deserve.

Powering Ontario for Generations to Come

Our government is committed to ensuring Ontario has access to clean, reliable, and affordable power, today and for generations to come.

That is why we have signed a new partnership agreement with the Municipality of Port Hope to advance what will become the world’s largest nuclear generating station. This historic project represents a major step forward in strengthening Ontario’s energy capacity while supporting economic growth across the province.

Once complete, the expanded nuclear station will support more than 10,000 jobs during construction and operation, while generating enough clean electricity to power up to 10 million homes. It will play a critical role in meeting growing energy demand as our population increases, industries expand, and more families and businesses electrify their operations.

Nuclear energy remains a key part of Ontario’s clean energy advantage. By investing in large-scale, emissions-free power generation, we are protecting energy affordability, strengthening our economy, and ensuring Ontario remains a global leader in clean electricity production.

Ontario Introduces Succession Planning Hub

Local mom and pop shops are more than small businesses. They are gathering places, first jobs for young people, trusted service providers, and proud family legacies that often span generations. In communities like Mississauga–Malton, these businesses help define our neighbourhoods and keep our local economy strong.

Whether passed down to family members or sold to new entrepreneurs who carry forward their vision, successful transitions are key to keeping these businesses thriving. That is why our government is investing in a new Succession Planning Hub to support small business owners as they plan for the future.

The Succession Planning Hub will provide guidance, tools, and resources to help owners navigate the process of selling, transferring, or passing down their business. From financial planning and legal considerations to connecting with potential buyers, this initiative is designed to make transitions smoother and more secure.

By helping business owners plan ahead, we are protecting local jobs, strengthening main streets, and ensuring that the small businesses we know and love can continue serving our community for years to come.

Protecting Ontario’s Workforce

Our government is taking another important step to protect workers’ health, both on the job and in the years that follow. That is why we are introducing Canada’s first Occupational Exposure Registry portal, a proactive tool designed to better safeguard workers across Ontario.

Occupational illnesses remain a serious concern. In Ontario, between 2010 and 2019, occupational illnesses accounted for approximately 76 per cent of workplace fatalities. Many of these illnesses are caused by exposure to hazardous substances such as asbestos, silica, chemicals, fumes, or biological agents. What makes them especially dangerous is that symptoms can take years, sometimes decades, to appear.

The new Occupational Exposure Registry portal will help document and track workplace exposures. By recording when and where workers may have been exposed to harmful substances, we can support earlier prevention efforts, improve monitoring, and strengthen long term health protections. This registry will empower workers, employers, and health professionals with better information to reduce risks before illness develops.

Labatt Breweries Joins Ontario Corps

When emergencies happen, we need all the help that we can get. That’s why our government launched the Ontario Corps in 2024—bringing together volunteers, businesses, and community organizations to stand together and protect Ontario communities during times of crisis.

The program connects trained volunteers with organizations that can provide critical support during emergencies such as floods, severe storms, wildfires, and other natural disasters. By working together, these partners help ensure communities can respond quickly and effectively when people need assistance the most.

Last month, Labatt Breweries of Canada officially joined 14 other organizations as an Ontario Corps partner. Through this partnership, Labatt will help support emergency response efforts by providing essential supplies like food and drinking water to communities affected by emergencies.

Partnerships like this strengthen Ontario’s emergency preparedness and ensure that when disaster strikes, help is ready to reach people quickly. By bringing together government, volunteers, and trusted organizations, Ontario Corps continues to build a stronger, more resilient province where neighbours help neighbours when it matters most.

Residents who want to help can also get involved. Ontarians can sign up to volunteer with Ontario Corps through the province’s website and connect with recognized community organizations that support emergency preparedness and response in their area. Volunteers may help with tasks such as supporting local relief efforts, assisting community organizations, or helping distribute supplies during emergencies.
