October ENews Letter
Message from Your MPP
Greetings Mississauga-Malton,
October is here, and it brings with it the vibrant colours of fall, cooler temperatures, and the excitement of seasonal festivities. It’s a month of transformation, where the crisp air and autumn leaves remind us of the beauty in change and the importance of community.
With Thanksgiving right around the corner, take a moment to reflect on the blessings in our lives, the strength of our community, and the importance of gratitude. We have many opportunities for celebration this month including Yom Kippur, Navratri, Sukkot, Diwali, and Halloween. Wishing everyone a joyous time as you celebrate these diverse occasions that make our community so unique.
The Ontario government remains committed to putting Ontarians first by investing an additional $3.5 million in the Ontario Agri-Food Research Initiative (OAFRI) to support the development and adoption of innovative technologies. It is also enhancing local emergency readiness with a second round of funding for the Community Emergency Preparedness Grant (CEPG) for 2024-25. Additionally, Ontario is safeguarding 400 well-paying jobs in the North through a new five-year contract that will support the operation of the largest fuelled plant in North America.
I extend a heartfelt thank you to my Mississauga-Malton family for coming together and exemplifying the true spirit of community at the Community BBQ on September 8th.
I am excited to see the true spirit of togetherness shine through during our Thanksgiving celebration October 19th at illumi from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
Let’s make the most of October by getting involved, sharing kindness, and spreading joy throughout our wonderful community.
Wishing you a warm, safe, and joyful October!
Best wishes,
Deepak Anand

Investments in Ontario
Updates from Queen’s Park
The Ontario government recorded a $0.6 billion deficit for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2024, compared to a forecasted deficit of $1.3 billion in the 2023 Budget. This nearly $700 million improvement resulted from a combination of higher revenues, increased program spending and lower-than-planned interest on debt expense.
Our government is also delivering on our promises made in the 2023 Budget: Building a Strong Ontario as shown through the recently released 2023-24 Public Accounts report which includes major investment increase of:
- +22.9% Increase in Infrastructure investments to build, repair and revitalize roads, public transit, waterways and other infrastructure required to build more homes.
- +8.9% Increase in Health Sector investments to connect all Ontarians to the healthcare they need, where and when they need it.
- +7.6% Increase in Education to build, repair and modernize schools across the province, creating more student spaces, better learning opportunities and new sports facilities.
