May 14, 2025
On May 14, 2025, Ontario Premier Doug Ford and Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew signed a historic Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) aimed at dismantling interprovincial trade barriers between the two provinces. This agreement is a significant step toward fostering economic growth, enhancing labour mobility, and streamlining the movement of goods and services across provincial borders.
Key Highlights of the Agreement:
- Streamlining Trade Regulations: The MOU commits both provinces to harmonize regulations, making it easier for businesses to operate seamlessly across Ontario and Manitoba.
- Enhancing Labour Mobility: By recognizing professional credentials across borders, the agreement facilitates the free movement of skilled workers, addressing labour shortages and boosting employment opportunities.
- Boosting Economic Prosperity: With two-way trade between Ontario and Manitoba valued at approximately $19.5 billion in 2021, this agreement is poised to further stimulate economic activity and competitiveness.
This collaboration aligns with the objectives of the Canadian Free Trade Agreement, reinforcing our commitment to a more integrated and prosperous national economy.
