Remarkable Citizen Awards

I am please to share that this year’s Remarkable Citizen Awards was an inspiring success! The event was held on June 30th, 2023. We celebrated 16 amazing individuals who have made significant contributions to their communities, making Mississauga-Malton a better place to work, live and raise a family.

Cheryl has 10+ years of experience working with children in various settings and is very passionate about education.

She values diversity and is an open-minded person always looking for an opportunity to help others.

Musawar has worked with several organizations dedicated to community service and social change. Among them is the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association, promoting peace and unity.

Additionally, he has actively collaborated with Seva Food Bank through Peel Police, contributing to their efforts in addressing hunger-related issues.

Captain Ranjit, a war veteran, helps newcomers to Canada, and also senior community members who do not have access to a vehicle.

He has been serving as the general secretary of Veterans Association of Canada since 2015.

Nawres is a community activist and a Professional Engineer, she helps the community as a PEO Government Liaison Riding Rep for Mississauga – Malton.

She is also a strong advocate for Iraqi newcomers to Canada.

Ovais is a result-oriented global humanitarian and iconic media personality.

He has raised over $5 Million over the last 10 years to serve humanity around the world.

Tusmena has been an active member of the Mississauga-Malton community and has volunteered with CNIB – Canadian National Institute of Blind as an event organizer and fundraisers lead. She has also volunteered with Humanity First.

A business owner, at 23, she started her own luxury jewelry brand which uses ethically sourced materials.

Linden King’s philosophy is to be part of the decision-making process to help Make a Difference.

Volunteerism ranks highly among Linden’s values with a particular focus on the least advantaged. He has received numerous awards for Community Service and works hard to build bridges within communities.

Mahender has dedicated his life to helping people and preserving the Indian heritage within Canada.

He was a community leader for food distribution to families in need during COVID and has helped newcomers & students settle in Canada with free accommodation & food for the past 30 years

Angie’s primary focus is working with others, from Mississauga-Malton youth to serving on boards. All of her activities are centered on creating a team in Malton to work together.

She also supports the Mount Zion food bank and other work to address food security and has been working with the Canadian Cancer society

Cathy strives to make a positive impact in the world, the neighborhood ” dog whisperer,” she has fought hard to protect workers rights to long term disability and travel benefits.

She has also co-hosted a very successful food drive, and pushed for a four way stop to protect school children, seniors and dog walkers.

Vincent voluntarily supports two media channels as Global coordinator where he plays a major role in bringing Indian community events to the public attention and thereby uplifts the cultural diversity of India.

He has played a significant role in featuring social awareness programs and community events for the Mississauga community and the Syrian Catholic Church

Chetna Sharma is a dedicated local volunteer who selflessly gives her time and effort to support various community initiatives and organizations, she has volunteered with the Deepak Anand team since his first election.

Her passion for making a positive impact in her neighborhood shines through her consistent involvement and willingness to lend a helping hand.

Anu is an exceptional community leader, philanthropist, and an entrepreneur. As the CEO of ARRA Arts she fostered socio-economic development and plays a leadership role to bring higher standard of arts exposure to the communities.

Arun’s core values consist of a strong belief in charity work and presenting opportunities to the underprivileged. He has avidly worked in community groups and strengthened the ethno-cultural activities and provided support to new immigrants. Additionally he has devoted inordinate amount of time, effort & funds since 2004 for Trillium Health Partners hospital

Dr. Zinaty’s research focuses on business leadership, diversity, inclusion, and the future of leadership.

In 2018, she was named an “Immigrant Woman of Inspiration” by the publication Canadian Immigrant and has been recognized by the Premier of Ontario and Federal Members of Parliament in Canada for her volunteerism and work in the community.
