September E-News Letter
Greetings Mississauga-Malton,
This is the time of the year when parents and children return to their routines, reflecting on the joyful and busy moments shared. With the new school year in session, I extend my best wishes for a safe, productive, and inspiring academic journey for all.
September marks the celebration of Nayrouz (Coptic New Year), Mid-Autumn Festival, Armenian Independence Day and Franco-Ontarian Day. May these celebrations bring joy and unity as we come together to appreciate Canada’s diverse mosaic.
Speaking of celebrations, our government has recently achieved some significant milestones including an investment of up to $26.7 million over three years through the Women’s Economic Security Program to support 25 local initiatives offering career training for women. The province also invested $970 million in 54 projects across 60 municipalities to help develop, repair and expand drinking water, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure. Additionally, Ontario lowered childcare fees for families as part of the Canada-wide Early Learning and Child Care (CWELCC) system.
I want to express a heartfelt thanks to everyone for generously opening their hearts and driveways to host meet and greets over the past few months. If you’re interested in organizing a meet and greet at your home, please visit deepakanandmpp.ca or call my office at 905-696-0367, and our team will be happy to assist you in organizing one.
I appreciate your ongoing support and active participation in making Mississauga-Malton a vibrant and inclusive community. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to my office with any questions, concerns, or suggestions. I look forward to seeing you all at the Mississauga-Malton Community BBQ on September 8, 2024, from 12 pm – 3 pm.
Stay safe, and enjoy the remainder of the summer!
Best Wishes,
MPP Deepak Anand

Back to School
As our province grows into the modern era, so does our need for more classrooms, teachers and support staff equipped with the tools needed to prepare our students for the jobs of tomorrow. That’s why the Ontario government is increasing Core Education Funding for the coming school year by $745 million more than last year.
Together with other investments, this represents $29 billion in total education funding and the largest investment in Ontario’s education system. Ontario’s plan will support getting back to basics, provide mental health support and build more schools, faster.
For the 2024-25 school year, the Ontario government’s investments include:
- Special Education funding is being increased to $3.5 billion
- $11.5 million additional investment to support school boards’ ability to conduct professional assessments to hire more staff to help reduce wait times for speech and language supports.
- An additional $10 million this year is being invested as part of the Special Incidence Portion (SIP) modernization to support students with extraordinarily high needs.
- School Facilities Fund is providing $2.9 billion for operating, maintaining, renovating, and renewing school buildings.
- Student Transportation funding is receiving an additional $80 million for a total of $1.3 billion, to better support reliable and safe transportation for students.
- Mental Health funding is being increased by $14 million to $117.65 million to provide students with mental health services over the summer months, including access to school-based mental health professionals, targeted programs and supports, year-round in response to recommendations from families and student trustees.
- Reading Support funding is allocating $68.68 million to hire over 600 specialized educators and provide increased reading supports; and $12.5 million for reading intervention support licences and $12.5 million for reading screening tools, so that every Senior Kindergarten, Grade 1 and Grade 2 child benefits from screening this coming school year.
- Math Supports are receiving $34 million to support the hiring of 300 school math facilitators and $13.5 million to fund school board math leads with a singular mandate to improve math skills.
- Building Security departments are receiving $10 million in new funding for school security infrastructure, including vape detectors.
Updating High School Cirriculums
For the first time in 25 years, our government is making major changes to the high school curriculum. The province is introducing a suite of reforms to ensure Ontario’s diploma embraces the back-to-basics agenda, including:
- Grade 9 students will be required to earn a Grade 9 or 10 Technological Education credit as part of their Ontario Secondary School Diploma. These courses will allow students to explore and apply fundamental technological concepts as well as the engineering design process.
- Two experiential courses in Business Studies for students in Grades 9 and 10 will help students to develop an entrepreneurial mindset, learn the importance of taking initiative, find creative solutions to issues as well as learn how to start and run a business.
- For Grade 10 students, mandatory learning on mental health literacy has been expanded in the Career Studies course. Students will learn how to recognize the signs of being overwhelmed as well as where to find help locally when needed.
Fighting Vaping & Cell Phone Usage in Schools
Ontario’s students are our province’s future!
That’s why our government is investing over $47 million to increase supports and resources, for school boards and students across Ontario, to help combat vaping/cellphone usage in schools with new courses, hardware & mental health resources.
