September E News Letter 2026

Message From Your MPP

Dear Friends and Neighbours,

September brings the return of familiar routines and the beginning of a new season. Students are heading back to school, families are settling into new schedules, and many of us are looking ahead to the months to come. Whether it is getting ready for the first day of school, returning to work and regular routines, or enjoying the last warm days of summer with family and friends, September offers an opportunity to look ahead while appreciating the moments we have shared throughout the summer. As we head into the Labour Day long weekend on September 7, I hope you have an opportunity to enjoy some well-deserved time with family and friends before settling into the season ahead.

September is also a month of reflection and celebration. We begin by recognizing Ukrainian Heritage Day, celebrating the rich culture, traditions, and contributions of Ukrainian Canadians. The month also includes Provincial Day of Service, honouring those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, while recognizing the courage and selflessness shown by first responders and communities in times of need. Franco-Ontarian Day later in the month celebrates the language, culture, and contributions of Ontario’s Francophone community. We close September with the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30, honouring survivors of residential schools, remembering the children who never returned home, and continuing to learn about the histories and cultures of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples.

Ontario businesses and workers continue to face uncertainty from U.S. tariffs and changing global trade conditions, making it important to protect jobs and support businesses through this challenging period. Our government is expanding eligibility for the Protect Ontario Financing Program to provide up to $1 billion in financial support to Ontario businesses facing tariff-related working capital challenges, including costs such as payroll, leases, and utilities. This expansion adds support for businesses affected by new 50 per cent U.S. tariffs while continuing assistance for industries facing existing tariffs on steel, aluminum, copper, and automobiles. These measures are part of Ontario’s broader $30 billion tariff relief and support plan to help businesses remain competitive, protect workers, and strengthen the province’s economy.

Supporting workers and families also means working closely with municipalities to keep costs down, improve essential services, and build stronger communities. At this year’s Association of Municipalities of Ontario conference, Ontario ministers and parliamentary assistants held nearly 800 meetings with municipal officials to advance shared priorities, including housing, infrastructure, health care, and public safety. Ontario is also moving forward with new investments, including $1 billion with the federal government to help municipalities build housing-enabling infrastructure such as roads, bridges, and water systems, while a new $250 million investment will support approximately 78 primary care teams expected to connect 600,000 more people to a family doctor or primary care provider. By working closely with municipalities, Ontario is helping lower costs, improve services, and build stronger communities for workers and families.

Community events are a special way to bring people together, build connections, and enjoy time with family and friends. On Saturday, September 19, I look forward to welcoming residents to our community BBQ at Westwood Square from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. Join us in the parking lot for an afternoon of food, entertainment, and family fun as we come together and celebrate the wonderful community we are fortunate to call home. We hope to see you and your family there!

As always, my team and I are here to support you. It is a privilege to serve this vibrant and diverse community. Please do not hesitate to reach out, as we are only a phone call or visit away.

Wishing you and your family a happy back-to-school season.

Warm regards,
Deepak Anand

Investments In Ontario

*Investment figures shown are approximate values. Click first line for details.

$1 Billion is being invested to support housing enabling infrastructure in municipalities that do not levy development charges.

Funding is being provided through a new Non-Development Charge Municipalities Stream and the Canada-Ontario Partnership to Build to help eligible municipalities build and renew critical infrastructure, such as roads, bridges and water systems that enable new housing

$35 Million is being invested to help long-term care homes support residents with complex needs.

Through the Local Priorities Fund, our government is supporting initiatives across the province that connect people with the right care for them, reducing unnecessary emergency department visits and hospital stays.

$32.5 Million is being invested to support border security, protecting Ontario and keeping communities safe.

This funding will help police agencies along Ontario’s border with new tools, technology and investigative resources that will help police detect, deter and disrupt the smuggling of illegal firearms, drugs and other contraband into Ontario.

$10.9 Million is being invested to strengthen Ontario’s health-care workforce.

Funding comes through the Skills Development Fund and will help prepare nearly 2,000 new workers and jobseekers for in-demand careers in the health-care sector.

$9.8 Million is being invested to protect and Train Workers in Major Canadian Industries

Through the Skills Development Fund, Ontario will prepare nearly 1,150 workers and job seekers across the province for in-demand careers in critical sectors of Canada’s economy like the skilled trades, construction, manufacturing, transportation and emerging technologies

$1.59 Million is being invested to help more children access sport and recreation programs.

Funding is being used to help Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charitties through the Inclusive Grassroots Recreation (IGR) program to help 37,000 children and youth access sport, recreation and physical activity opportunities in communities across the province.

Updates from Queen’s Park

Ontario Launches Data Centre Playbook

Our government has launched a new Data Centre Playbook to attract major technology investments, create good-paying jobs and strengthen Ontario’s position as a leader in the digital economy. The framework will help ensure new data centre projects deliver meaningful economic benefits while protecting Ontario ratepayers from additional electricity costs.

Under the new framework, Ontario will prioritize projects that:

  • Create good-paying jobs and attract significant investment
  • Strengthen Canadian data security and digital sovereignty
  • Provide benefits to host communities through infrastructure, training and economic development
  • Meet strong environmental standards for water consumption and noise
  • Pay the full cost of their impact on Ontario’s electricity system

The Data Centre Playbook will also support Ontario’s forthcoming AI strategy and help the province take advantage of new opportunities in artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies.

Strengthening Bail Requirements to Protect Communities

Our government is taking further action to strengthen Ontario’s bail system, keep violent and repeat offenders off our streets and protect communities across the province.

Effective August 17, 2026, new measures are in place to improve accountability for people accused of serious crimes who are released on bail. The changes will strengthen bail compliance and make it easier for the province to collect forfeited bail payments when accused individuals violate their bail conditions.

These measures are part of Ontario’s broader bail strategy to make bail more real and consequential. By strengthening accountability and ensuring there are consequences when conditions are breached, our government is continuing to support law enforcement and help keep families and communities safe.

Introducing New Social Assistance Eligibility Rules

Our government is strengthening the rules for Ontario’s social assistance programs to protect taxpayer dollars and ensure support is available for families and individuals facing financial hardship who are legally authorized to live in Canada.

Effective immediately, Ontario has amended regulations under the Ontario Works Act and the Ontario Disability Support Program Act to provide greater clarity around eligibility for Ontario Works and the Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP).

Under the updated rules, the following individuals are not eligible for social assistance:

  • Individuals who are living in Canada illegally
  • Individuals authorized to remain in Canada temporarily, including those here on student visas, work permits, or as visitors and tourists

Applicants are required to demonstrate their citizenship or immigration status when applying for social assistance. These changes will help ensure taxpayer-funded programs remain focused on supporting eligible Ontarians who need them most.

Our government is also continuing to support Ontario’s most vulnerable residents. Since September 2022, ODSP rates have increased by nearly 23 per cent, with annual increases tied to inflation.

IOntario Deploys First Police Helicopter in Peel Region

Our government is helping Peel Regional Police crack down on crime and keep communities safe with the deployment of the first helicopter under Ontario’s new Joint Air Support Unit. The helicopter will provide police with an important tool to respond to auto theft, violent crime, street racing and other serious incidents across Peel Region.

Ontario is investing $134 million in the Joint Air Support Unit to support the purchase of five police helicopters that will serve communities across the Greater Toronto Area and Ottawa. The new helicopters will help police:

  • Track and apprehend suspects involved in serious crimes
  • Respond more quickly to auto thefts and dangerous driving
  • Support officers during high-risk incidents and pursuits
  • Improve coordination between police services across the region

The deployment of Peel’s helicopter will give officers greater visibility from the air and another resource to help locate suspects while reducing the need for dangerous ground pursuits. This investment is part of our government’s continued work to give police the tools and resources they need to protect families and keep our streets safe.
