VOLUNTEERS ARE THE KEY TO A BETTER SOCIETY
Work for a cause, not for the applause.
A 2010 Statistics Canada report revealed that 47 per cent — or more than 13 million Canadians — volunteered their time toward causes. In total, two billion hours were volunteered, which makes it the equivalent of 1.1 million full time jobs. On average, they volunteered 21 working days.
There are many such individuals in our community, who are the true heroes — silently giving their time, talents and energy toward causes close to their hearts. These people are ambassadors of humanity, going above and beyond the call of duty.
We want to acknowledge their efforts and celebrate their passion for the community by launching the first edition of the “Mississauga-Malton Annual Remarkable Citizens Awards” during our Canada Day celebration this year.
These awards will be given to respected and dedicated community leaders, volunteers, and residents who have made a positive impact in the riding.
If you know someone who is making a difference in the community or if your life has been touched by a volunteer, help us by nominating that selfless individual. In approximately 150 to 250 words, explain the person’s contribution and make a case for their recognition. Also, include two pictures of the nominee.
Nominations can be mailed to or dropped off at our constituency office by 5 p.m. on June 7.
On another note, we are organizing our regular town hall meeting on Wednesday, March 13 from 7 p.m. onwards at the Malton Community Centre.
As our special guests for the evening, we will have representatives from Greater Toronto Airport Authority and Malton Business Improvement Area, who will discuss their plans for Mississauga-Malton.
I believe in teamwork and encourage residents to not only attend our town hall, but also get involved in the community. I strongly believe that volunteers are the lifeblood of every community and it is through their dedication and hard work that we can create a positive environment.
Our constituency office is located at 7895 Tranmere Dr., Unit 20. Public hours are Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. For anyone with concerns, ideas or a wish to volunteer and give back to the community, please get in touch with us.
