MPP Anand’s fourtieth Members’ Statement was on the topic of the “Ismaili Council for Ontario”, delivered on 31 May 2021.

Thank you, Mr. Speaker.

Throughout COVID-19, we have witnessed everyone from individuals to organizations band together to protect their fellow neighbours and communities across the province. This is the Ontario Spirit. I would like to thank The Ismaili Council for Ontario, for rising above the challenges and remained steadfast in supporting local communities by providing essential supplies and resources during COVID-19.

Through their Ismaili Civic Initiative, the Council has sewn and donated over 25,000 masks, provided 5,000 pounds of food supplies, and contributed over $18,000 in monetary donations to local food banks. Also delivered over 25,000 food items for health care professionals in the GTA, volunteered at hospitals, donated hundreds of pints of blood through the Canadian Red Cross and hosted over 5 Pop up Clinics in their places of worship, known as Jamatkhanas.

I would also like to congratulate the global Ismaili community as you celebrate His Highness Aga Khan’s 64th year as their spiritual leader on the 11th of July.

Guided by principles of volunteerism and compassion, Each and every member of Islamili Council for Ontario are dedicated to serving and uplifting the community

His Highness’ partnership with Canada has helped support the health, education, and well-being of individuals across the world for 40 years and counting.

Thank you once again to the incredible volunteers and staff of the Ismaili Civic Initiative for your unwavering commitment to protect children, families, and individuals across Ontario. You are community heroes.
