We have been making it easier, faster and more convenient for people and businesses to access services. Sixty-four of the busiest ServiceOntario centres now have an enhanced booking system. You can book multiple services in a single appointment on an electronic device or book an appointment for an entire family. You can book virtual appointments for services such as renewing health cards through live video calls. You can access services in-person, by phone, or online with more than 55 online services available. New online services are being added regularly. In the coming months, soon-to-be-married couples can apply for a marriage licence online as well as digital dealership registration, providing on-site registration of vehicle purchases at dealerships.

What you need to know:

  • renewing your licence plate is free
  • you must renew your licence plate every 1 or 2 years, typically before your birthday
  • you can renew your licence plate up to 180 days before it expires
  • the expiry date can be checked online using your licence plate and vehicle permit numbers

To renew, you need:

  • your licence plate number
  • your vehicle permit number
  • your insurance company name & policy number
  • your odometer reading
  • to pay any defaulted fines, tolls, or fees
  • to pay any renewal fees
  • to do an emissions test (for heavy-duty diesel vehicles)

For businesses:

  • for vehicles that weigh 3000 kg or less, you can renew online for up to 10 vehicles per transaction
  • for vehicles that weigh over 3000 kg, you can renew online for up to 5 vehicles per transaction

Did you know:

  • stickers are no longer needed, law enforcement will instantly know if your plate has been renewed
  • if you’ve moved recently, you must change the address within 6 days

What you need to know:

  • renewing your driver’s licence has a $90 fee
  • your new licence will arrive in the mail within 4 to 6 weeks
  • you must renew your driver’s licence every 5 years
  • when you renew online, you will receive a temporary driver’s licence validation document if your driver’s licence has already expired or you renew online within 28 days of your current driver’s licence expiry date

You can renew online if you:

  • have a full licence (G, M, or GM class) that isn’t cancelled or suspended
  • have a combination class of G1M, G2M, GM1, or GM2 (only the full portion will be renewed online)
  • haven’t updated your address within the last 90 days
  • don’t need tests (vision, written, or road)
  • are not removing a vision condition
  • have no new medical conditions that may prevent you from driving
  • don’t have outstanding fines or penalties

To renew online, you need:

  • your driver’s licence number
  • the 7-digit trillium number found on the back of your driver’s licence
  • your postal code

Did you know:

  • if you recently moved, you need to update your address with the Ontario government
  • you may need to take a new driver’s licence photo every 10 years
  • you can have your photo retaken any time for $35.75

What you need to know:

  • renewing your APP is free
  • you can renew your APP if you have a health condition that meets the required criteria or are a company/organization owning or leasing vehicles to transport persons with accessibility needs and meet the required criteria

You can renew online if you:

  • have an existing permanent APP and don’t need recertification from a regulated healthcare practitioner
  • have an existing subject-to-change or temporary APP & have received recertification from your regulated healthcare practitioner
  • understand & consent to Service Ontario verifying the information provided in the APP application form to determine whether to issue or renew your APP

To renew online, you need:

  • permit holders: full name, date of birth, gender, address, phone number, email address
  • current APP information
  • permit holder’s driver’s licence number
  • identity documents (if applicable)
  • completed APP form (if applicable)
  • provide proof of your full name, date of birth, and signature

For companies/organizations:

  • company permits are valid for 5 years and if are still required, they must be renewed every 5 years
  • to be eligible, your company/organization:
    • must be incorporated/registered and operating in Ontario
    • vehicles must be registered with the company/organization
    • vehicles must be owned or leased by the company/organization to provide transportation services to persons with a disability (if an organization, on a non-profit basis)

What you need to know:

  • renewing your card has a $35 fee
  • you must renew your card every 5 years
  • your new card will be delivered in 4-6 weeks by mail
  • you can apply for a renewal online if you don’t need a new photo
  • you are required to get a new photo every 10 years and if so, visit a ServiceOntario centre

What you need to know:

  • renewing your health card is free
  • the renewed card will be mailed to you in 4 to 6 weeks
  • you must renew your card every 5 years

You can renew online if you have:

  • a valid Ontario photo health card that
    • will expire within 90 days, or expire on or after December 1, 2019
    • has an up-to-date photo & signature
    • has an up-to-date address with ServiceOntario
  • a valid driver’s licence that
    • is not suspended, cancelled, or expired
    • does not require a test
    • has an up-to-date photo & signature
    • has an up-to-date address with ServiceOntario
  • have a valid Ontario Photo Card (not expired or cancelled)
